Biography

Ian Moore studied graphic design at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art and Design. In 1990, on completion of his studies he had work accepted in four major national illustration competitions. Over the next thirteen years he worked as a freelance illustrator commissioned by various publications including Elle, Vogue, New Internationalist, The Telegraph and Financial Times. His illustrations have featured in many design projects, international advertising campaigns, record and book covers.

Ian has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in London and Buckinghamshire, and has his work in galleries around the UK. In the last nine years he has moved away from illustration to concentrate solely on painting.

Many of these paintings were inspired by the true story of Tottington, a village in Norfolk where his family originally came from. The village was taken over by the War Department for troop training purposes in 1942, with the promise of returning the village. The promise was not kept and the families never returned. This led to work based around village life, the families who were re-located, and the mock characterless buildings that were used by the military for battle training. The idea has now developed into the current series of paintings depicting houses and homes.
